I think it’s time for a course correction. A recent update has made my system really less enjoyable, to say the least. Adobe flash doesn’t run. Ditto for Chrome. I can at least get YouTube videos with Firefox and HTML 5. sometimes it seems Gnash is working.

Ubuntu is starting to suck too. In order to make it all usable on this hardware, I have to run xlde. I’m not a huge fan.

here’s the CPU chart of the current setup doing nothing but running system monitor:

Video playback was never good on this system no matter what I did. Now, I’m getting a lot of audio noise. I think my speaker system is messed up.

I’m tired of futzing with this machine so, I might just toss it. It’s oldest parts, the CPU and memory, are seven years old and, they were old technology when I bought them. Those speakers are 13 years old and, now that I think about it, they never worked quite right: I have always had to play with the cables to make sound come out of the left channel.

Now, I just have to figure out what kind of new system I want.
