I’m posting this from a fairly old Athlon machine running Ubuntu. It’s an old K7MNF-64 motherboard with some kind of GeForce 6200 AGP card. This card has really given me trouble. A lot of futzing around seems to happen after every OS upgrade and I never get decent video playback performance.
Somehow, I have it in my mind that this is due to AGP and that if i just put a cheap card in a PCI slot, all will be better.
I found a EVGA 512-P1-N402-LR GeForce 6200 512MB 64-bit DDR2 PCI 2.1 for $20. Then, wondered if it would fit. I’m so lazy. Rather than power down, open the case and look, I searched for the photo I took while building the machine as well and determined that once the AGP card is gone, the digital IO card that goes with the SoundBlaster live will have plenty of room after some re-arranging.
I’m on a Facebook hiatus for the month of July, maybe longer.
If you really want to follow me, please do so on twitter @sablobsimus, this blog, youtube or, on the bigwinky twitter feed.
In the meantime, every time I like a video on youtube, it’ll cause a post on facebook.
Here’s one below. If you make it to 1:30, you’ll stay for more. I’m liking the 6/4 meter!
